The aim of constructing the telescope for detecting near-- terrestrial celestial bodies is to detect and discover near—terrestrial minor planet and comet 。It will be part of space alertness—net preventing near—terrestrial celestial bodies from striking the earth。Its scientific target list as follows:
The telescope equipped with CCD detecting system is principally applied to automatically search, position and measure near—terrestrial minor planet and comet which are fast moving。It can conduct fast tracking in time for computing orbit after new celestial bodies are discovered。Minor planet and comet moving between orbit of Mars and that of Jupiter can be auto-search,discovered and measured to for auto-computing。It can also auto-measure minor planet of deep space which move slowly and carry on astronomical observation for other celestial bodies。The telescope has a corrector with clear aperture of 1000mm,spherical reflector with aperture of 1200mm and focal length of 1800mm。After finishing construction,it will not only become a Schmidt telescope with biggest aperture for transmission corrector but also list the fifth among Schmidt telescopes with transmission corrector in the world because of its clear aperture。
