LAMOST completion ceremony was held on Oct.16,2008 at Xinglong Observatory station。

LAMOST is a quasi-meridian reflecting Schmidt telescope with a 5°field of view, laid down on the ground with its optical axis fixed in the meridian plane。

       Its optical system include:

1):a reflecting Schmidt corrector MA with 5.72m×4.4m(consists of 24 hexagonal plane sub-mirrors )

2):a spherical primary mirror MB with 6.67m×6.05m(consists of 37 hexagonal spherical sub-mirrors)

    3):focal plane

For eliminating the spherical aberration of MB, it is needed to change the shape of MA into required aspherical surface realtime during tracking.Effective aperture change from 3.6m to 4.9m during observating different sky area。

Its focal plane may accommodate as many as 4000 optical fibers which are auto-positioned。So the light from 4000 celestial objects will be led into 16 spectrographs simultaneously.
