The research department specializes in mirror technology for Chinese future large and extremely large astronomical telescope，especially pay attention to develope mirror technology as follows:
1)：mirror technology with large aperture、fast focal ratio、deep asphericity、high precision
2)：fabrication technology of large quantities of off-axis aspherical mirror for extremely telescope segmented mirrors

Instruments
The research department equipped with 3.6m loop polishing machine，2.5m grinding and polishing machine，1.6m magnetron sputtering vacuum coater，WYKO interferometer，4D anti-vibration interferometer，phase-shifting infrared interferometer etc。
