The lab specialize in Fabrication technology of astronomical mirror with large aperture and high accuracy。For the manufacturing of large plano optics，spherical and aspherical mirror，relative facilities including the testing devices which with the capacity of 2.5-meter in diameter have been equipped。The largest telescope in China ，2.16 meter telescope was accomplished its optical system in the lab in 1980's。In international cooperation，several Ritchey—Chretien optical systems for 1 meter class telescope were carried out。They were exported to Spain，Japan and South Korea respectively。
