On April 25, 2023, the launch and implementation scheme demonstration meeting of "Frontier technology research of large astronomical optical infrared telescopes" project led by Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics & Technology (NIAOT) was held in Nanjing.

The project is one of key special project of "Frontier research of large scientific devices" of national key R&D program.

Nearly 50 leaders, experts and project participants from Frontier Science and Education Bureau of Chinese Academy of Sciences, National Astronomical Observatories, Purple mountain Observatory, Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, Yunnan Observatory, Chengdu Institute of Optics and Electronics, Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics & Technology (NIAOT), Nanjing University of Science & Technology, University of Science and Technology of China attended the launch meeting on site and online.

Experts agreed that this project is of great significance for the development of key technology of optical infrared telescope and the development of large aperture telescope of China in the future.

Review of implementation plan of the project has been passed.
