December 17,2020, surface polishing of integrated field of view unit (IFU) equipped on Fiber Array Solar Optical Telescope (FASOT) undertaken by Research Center for Large Astronomical Optics of NIAOT successfully passed the acceptance.

It took less than two months to complete polishing 14 end surfaces. A total of 8064 fiber surfaces were tested one by one by the test team using a high power microscope. The yield of good products was as high as 99.963%.

Figures 1 and 2 show the polishing effect of the array ends and one of the slit ends, respectively.

IFU which connect telescope and spectrometer is a key device for image cutting and recombination as well as optical signal transmission.

The total length of IFU is about 18.5 m, including 2 microlens array ends ,12 pseudo-narrow ends and connecting optical cable. It is the largest pair of IFU in the world at present.

The project team will actively conduct on curved surface polishing of IFU.
