On September 25, 2020, Nanjing University organized an evaluation meeting for the design scheme of 2.5 m wide-field and high-resolution telescope (WeHoT) developed by Nanjing University in cooperation with Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics & Technology (NIAOT), Yunnan Observatory and Purple Mountain Observatory which will be the largest axisymmetric solar telescope in the world with a unique dual-purpose for day-and-night astronomy in NIAOT.

After 14 experts of the evaluation team from Nanjing University, New Jersey Institute of Technology of United States (Web-based video conference), National Observatory, Yunnan Observatory, Institute of Optoelectronic Technology and NIAOT listened to the report given by NIAOT on the overall design scheme, mechanical structure design scheme, optical system design scheme, electronic control system and software design scheme of the 2.5 meter telescope, the evaluation was successfully passed.

Construction of the telescope is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2025 with a preliminary site scheduled for Sichuan Province.
