The project of preliminary design scheme and investment estimate for support platform of astronomical optics technology experiment and inspection and installation of large aperture astronomical telescope undertaken by NIAOT in the 13th Five-Year Plan for Infrastructure of Science and Education have been approved by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

This indicates that the project has completed all the preliminary examination and approval work at the national level and has begun to enter the stage of local construction approval and construction implementation.

With a total investment of 47.24 million RMB, the platform can realize the whole technical process including manufacture and inspection for optical mirror from rough grinding to fine grinding and polishing as well as coating. It can also provide indispensable key technical support for the installation, integration and inspection of optical electromechanical system of telescope, which can be used to research and manufacture optical system and high-precision mirror for astronomical telescope and instrument with large, medium and even extremely large aperture.
