From April 1 to 3 2015,Technical seminar for Maunakea Spectroscopic Explorer (MSE) was held sucessfully in Nanjing which was co-hosted by NIAOT and the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) observatory。
More than 40 experts and scholars from China,France,Canada,American including Doug Simons (director of CFHT) and Rick Murowinski (project manager of MSE) attended the seminar。
Foreign experts gave an introduction to status and progress of MSE meanwhile status and progress of LAMOST was presented by NIAOT etc, which indicate that China has ability of research and development of 10m astronomical telescope including its scientific instruments。Experts and scholars gave a detail discussion on corperation of developing MSE。
The Maunakea Spectroscopic Explorer project will transform the CFHT 3.6m optical telescope into a 10m class dedicated multiobject spectroscopic facility, with an ability to simultaneously measure thousands of objects with a spectral resolution range spanning 2,000 to 20,000. The project is currently in design phase, with full science operations nominally resuming in 2025. Before completion in 2025, the project will also have transformed and expanded the partnership into one poised to tackle global themes in concert with the coming wide field surveys and the new Extremely Large Telescopes.
