On October 31, 2013 Niaot and Yun nan Astronomical Observatory jointly held first seminar of Ground large aperture optical / infrared astronomy telescope" 。

After introduction of the current situation of international 8-10 m level telescope and major scientific output as well as a possible proposal，experts and scholars  attending the seminar conducted warm discussion of ground large aperture optical/infrared astronomy telescope on construction necessity, scientific objectives，possible technical solution and terminal equipment configuration，site selection and other issues。 

The experts aunanimously agreed that construction of ground large aperture optical / infrared astronomy telescope is a necessary stage of development of Chinese astronomy after regular survey for Lamost。

Both parties agreed to set up a committee as soon as possible to promote the related work of development of ground large aperture optical / infrared telescope in China。
